We were 21 days removed from FutureShock Wrestling’s 20th-anniversary show Night Two taking place out of the Stockport Guildhall, as on that night it saw a full building clapping and giving a final sendoff to the ‘Man of the People’ Chris Egan, as he was forced to retire at the hands of the new FutureShock Heavyweight champion Connor Patrick Reilly. However, that was then, and this is now, as ‘Back to the FutureShock’ took place on Sunday, with the main event being that of the new champion, Connor Patrick Reilly, defending his title against the man who beat him earlier in the evening that night, in the company’s resident doctor, Doctor Proctor.
FUTURESHOCK ADRENALINE TITLE MATCH: TEDDY REAY © vs JOEY HAYES
The opening contest saw Joey Hayes looking to become a three-time Adrenaline champion as he faced the newly crowned champion in North West Strong’s Teddy Reay. This was a wrestling masterclass where technical wrestling was king, with both men being very cautious and not wanting to make the first mistake. It saw this title match go back and forth with Hayes taking over after Reay fell into the ropes twice and saw him controlling things before the champion tried to turn the tables by targeting the ankle and leg of the challenger. Having been a tactical battle throughout where they looked to adopt wrestling holds, it saw them switching from submission and mat-based holds to now trying to pin their opponent by pinfall. The final stages saw Hayes and Reay reversing each other’s pinning attempts with their own, where it saw the Rat King having the more secure cover and gaining the three count for the win and a successful title defence in the process.
LILY WINTER vs HOLLIE BARLOW
After Lily Winter sprung a huge surprise by naming Hollie Barlow as her mystery opponent last month at FutureShock’s 20th Anniversary show Night 1, it saw her going on to destroy the former women’s champion. It would be fair to say that Winter had the unfair advantage on that occasion, as this time around the ‘Hot Topic’ Hollie Barlow had time to prepare and look to dish out some revenge and serve it ice cold!’. It saw Hollie Barlow come out on fire and take it to Winter, who didn’t seem to expect such a quick start by her foe, but she would soon settle into the match and have her dominating Hollie again. While Lily talked trash to her opponent and the fans, the FutureShock faithful tried their best to get behind Barlow and will her back into the match. Despite a valiant effort from her opponent, Lily Winter picked up Hollie and nailed her with the TKSnow to make it back-to-back wins over her foe and have what’s next for both women.
Before we saw another match, we heard the entrance music of ‘Start Me Up’ by the Rolling Stones and used by the now-retired Chris Egan. Those in the Stockport Guildhall crowd thought Chris Egan had made a surprise visit, as a stray hand through the curtain wanted a louder reaction from the FutureShock faithful. But joy turned to disappointment, as the hand belonged to that of the new FutureShock Heavyweight champion, Connor Patrick Reilly, as he came out mimicking the dancing of Chris Egan. After battling through the boos of the crowd, he spoke about how he was a genius in getting rid of that ‘that idiot’ (referring to Chris Egan) and how he was now the heavyweight champion. Reilly would begrudgingly concede that he lost to Doctor Proctor earlier in the night but claimed his main focus was on the title match and didn’t care about his fight with Proctor, and that’s why he lost.
Doctor Proctor then came out after the champion was running him down in terms of not being an attractive opponent in his first title defence, while happy to face the champion now instead of later on. But as Proctor got in the ring, it saw Reilly leaving the ring and head back through the curtain, leaving everyone with the comment that ‘Egan was an idiot’ and had the challenger having to wait a tiny bit longer.
FUTURESHOCK TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS: MEAT WAGON vs. FTM (FINLY TUNED MACHINES)
Having seen Troy Ryan & Anderson Daniels of Meat Waggon regain their tag team titles in the 4-way TLC match last month on the Anniversary show, there has been one tag team that has been very vocal about wanting a shot at the title online, or Jack Critchlow to be more specific, as he has let everyone know what he wanted. Things started with Critchy and Ryan, of which the pair had been having a back-and-forth online for a few days, so when the cocky Critchlow chopped his opponent before immediately running to his corner like a greyhound to tag in his partner Tom McColl. It saw the Meat Waggon starting well before FTM took over and began to keep Daniels away from his corner, as the challengers used every trick in the book they knew to keep their worn-out opponent in this half of the ring or even pull Ryan off the ring at the last minute to make the tag.
Ryan got the tag and cleaned house, where despite two attempts at hitting their ‘Tenderiser’ double team finisher, FTM constantly found ways to avoid on the wrong end of one. Meat Waggon thought they had done enough to win the match, but it saw a kickout, which led to FTM hitting a double-team move and only scoring a two-count. The Meat Wagon cooled Critchy’s jets before the tag team champions then showed why they are the best tag team in the division by setting up Tom McColl to get hit with the tenderiser as the Meaty Boys retained their titles.
4-WAY MATCH WINNER FACES RHINO AT BUMPS IN THE NIGHT: JACOB NORTH vs DYNAMITE LEE DAWSON vs TONY WRIGHT vs JOE BLAZR
This four-way encounter saw four men with very different career paths all vying for that huge match against the ‘MAN-BEAST’ Rhino at the MMU Union in Manchester on October 19th, as it saw former tag partners Jacob North and Dynamite Lee Dawson facing off with former heavyweight champion Joe Blazr and the Leading Man Tony Wright. From the opening bell, it seemed to have Jacob North being the more dominant of the four; that was despite having ‘The Asset’ Steven Cross accompanying him down at ringside and proving to be a useful ally in his ranks. Cross got involved by trying to take Dynamite Lee Dawson out of the equation with North, Blazr, and Wright in the middle of the ring.
It saw Blazr and Wright left in the ring while Dawson and North were on the outside, and after the former champion looked to have Wright beaten, it saw Dawson stopping the pinfall and having the match continue. While Blazr and Wright fought on the outside, it allowed Jacob North to book his place against Rhino at ‘Bumps in the Night’ on October 19th by hitting his former teammate in Dynamite Lee Dawson with the North to South DDT to gain the win. The aftermath saw Tony Wright and Joe Blazr getting into a heated argument as they headed back through the curtain.
‘STAR KILLER’ DAVE BIRCH vs ‘WILDFIRE’ NATE REESE
FutureShock’s resident Grumpbag on the roster, Nate Reese, came to the ring in his traditional shouty, hot-headed way moaning before the match even got underway, as his opponent was the Starkiller Dave Birch, as Birch was looking to chalk up a singles win against a man who hadn’t won since September 2023. This was a good little contest that saw both men enjoying spells of control, with Reese using his technical side and Birch using his speed and athletic moves. Despite a couple of failed attempts at hitting the Star Destroyer Piledriver, it saw the Starkiller finally nailing the move, and while he didn’t hit all of it, it had enough to score the pinfall victory.
FUTURESHOCK HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP: CONNOR PATRICK REILLY © VS DR. PROCTOR
The main event of Back to the FutureShock saw the new FutureShock Champion, Connor Patrick Reilly, attacking the challenger before the introductions and wanted the ring announcer Ashley Bradbury to speed up the intros so he could capitalise on his underhanded work. Reilly went immediately for the pin but saw him getting only a two-count, as Proctor needed a while to gather his bearing after the attack before the bell. It was a match that saw the recently crowned champion C.P. Reilly in full control for the most part, as he put the doctor on the back foot from the off.
Reilly was arguing with the crowd and getting a bit too cocky with his opponent in trouble, as he felt he had the match all under control, and that was until he gave himself the defibrillator to storm back into the contest. Proctor began to take over and saw the champion now looking in trouble himself, with him growing into the match and having the crowd right behind him moving forward. Just as it seemed like the match was beginning to turn in favour of the challenger, it saw Reilly hitting a second spear and following it up with a running knee to the back of his opponent’s head to score the victory and help the champion retain his title and make it a successful first defence of his heavyweight crown.
