Futureshock Tournament Qualifier: NADJEI v JACK JOHNSON
In the first of the four Futureshock Tournament qualifying matches in the afternoon, it saw Nadjei facing Jack Johnson where both men looked to book their place in the final later in the evening. Nadjei came flying out from the corner as the bell rang and knocked his opponent down to the mat, where it looked like the ‘Rookie Season’ may score a fast win, but Johnson kicked out. It took Jack a few minutes to regain his senses, and when he did, he punished Nadjei and had him in trouble. However, Nadjei then started to mount a comeback in the match, only to have it dramatically halted when Johnson was on the outside, struck his opponent in the head with a weapon that was under the ring to knock him out cold and went on to lock in a submission hold with the referee calling for the bell.
WINNER: Jack Johnson
GEN 1 v PETER SEHDOR & THEO THREADGOLD
Originally slated to be Prince Pele/James Grayson against Peter Sehdor and Jenson Vesper, it saw Vesper ruled out through injury and had newcomer Theo Threadgold of the Horde joining him as his tag partner. For a lot of the contest, the duo of Sehdor and Threadgold mixed well in the match with a couple of indecisive moments, but they were gelling well while poor James Grayson seemed to take the brunt of the offence from his opponents. Pele then turned the tide in the match by shutting up the mouthy Canadian and the silent Threadgold, as they both faced the wrath of the Prince. But just as it seemed to look like Gen 1 was back in the match, it saw their opponents taking back the advantage, only for Threadgold to join the members of the Horde at the entrance and leave Sehdor all alone before being hit by a double team to see Pele/Grayson prevail and stake their claim to a tag title show.
Winner: GEN 1
Futureshock Tournament Qualifier: TONY WRIGHT vs. JOE BLAZR
The second qualifying match pitted two men with a strained relationship in recent months, in which the two have gone from tag partners to having Joe Blazr costing Tony Wright the heavyweight title by ‘accidentally’ clocking him with the championship before having Blazr rolled up and costing his ‘friend’ another match. So this match seemed perfect for both men to get it out of their collective system. Unsurprisingly, Wright was the fan favourite in the contest, with the boos for Blazr coming from the crowd, barring a pocket behind the former champion. ‘The Leading Man’ started well, but after attempting an early Pedigree, it allowed Blazr to get into his stride, take over the match, shout at Tony that he needed it more, and tell him to stay down. Wright battled back in the contest and saw him and Blazr reversing each other’s moves, where a bit of a dodgy count saw Tony Wright prevail. After the match, Joe Blazr shook his hand and quickly left the ring.
WINNER: Tony Wright
Futureshock Tournament Qualifier: JOEY HAYES vs CRITCHY
Jack Critchlow came out and began to run down the Stockport Guildhall crowd and his opponent, with Joey Hayes coming out and playing on the comments made by Critchy about being old. Joey put his cocky opponent in his place to start with, as Hayes out-wrestled Critchy, but the Liverpudlian would regroup to get things going as the contest became even. It saw Critchy looking to be in control and had his motormouth running overtime by narrating the beatdown on his foe. That was until Joey hit the JKO out of nowhere to see him advance to the final and take a step closer to the Futureshock trophy.
WINNER: JOEY HAYES
Futureshock Tournament Qualifier: DAMON LEIGH vs. DR PROCTOR
The final qualifying match pitted FutureShock’s resident medic, Dr Proctor, against former heavyweight champion Deadly Damon Leigh for the final spot in the four-way final later that event. During the match, Leigh constantly flirted with breaking the rules to help his cause, but his conscience seemed to take over and forced himself to not lower himself to a cheap victory, with referee James Greenwood pleading with him not to cheat. After claims of Proctor blinding him, both Leigh and Greenwood asked for a ‘doctor in the house’ where Proctor declared “I am a doctor” and proceeded to give him a check-over before taking down the Deadly one. However, after Proctor used the defibrillation manoeuver in the corner, Deadly Damon Leigh moved the turnbuckle pad to the side and had the referee notice he moved the pad away from the corner, as Leigh agreed and asked the referee politely to fix it. However, with James Greenwood turning away to fixing the turnbuckle pad, it allowed Damon Leigh to low-blow the Doctor and score the pinfall victory to make the final and join Tony Wright, Jack Johnson and Joey Hayes.
Winner: Deadly Damon Leigh
THE ‘05 (Dec Henry & Harvey Jukes) v THE HORDE (Solomon/Gorgon)
It was back in October when The ‘05 recorded a huge win over their two head coaches at the Futureshock PC in Sam Bailey and Chris Ridgeway at Bumps in the Night, it saw the young tag team looking to make it two wins on the spin, as they went up against members of The Horde in the ‘monster’ Solomon and leader of the group in Gorgon. The ‘05 found themselves behind the 8-ball for most of the match due to Harvey Jukes cut off from his tag partner Dec Henry, which saw Solomon and Gorgon taking full advantage of the contest. The only way it seemed like The Horde would throw away this contest would be complacency or miscommunication, and that is what happened. Following Henry pushing Solomon into Gorgon and sending him flying, it saw things unravelling for “The Horde” where the rookie tag team stole victory and had the sight of Gorgon furious with Solomon as they headed back through the curtain.
Winners: The ’05
LIAM SLATER v CONNOR PATRICK REILLY (c) – FUTURESHOCK Men’s CHAMPION:
In what was the third title defence of the ‘Genius era’ of Connor Patrick Reilly’s reign as Futureshock champion, it saw his opponent being the head coach of PPW (Pursuit Pro Wrestling) in Liam Slater and a tough nut to crack for the champion. That was looking to be the theme of the match, as Slater was out-wrestling his opponent in every way, even outsmarting the ‘Genius’ once the champion left the ring to head to the back, with Slater slamming the fire exit door and hiding under the ring. Reilly thought that Slater had taken off, so he headed back into the ring at the count of ‘7’ to take a count-out victory, only to have the count reach ‘9’ with Liam standing behind the champion, who had no clue he was there and had the ref informing Reilly that his opponent was back in the ring. While Reilly enjoyed a purple patch in the match, it saw Slater looking moments away from becoming the new futureshock champion until Connor Patrick Reilly reversed things by the ropes and used them for leverage and steal victory to retain his title.
WINNER: Connor Patrick Reilly
