FutureShock 20th Anniversary: Night 2 Preview

Next weekend marks twenty years for the Manchester-based company Futureshock Wrestling, as they hold their 20th anniversary weekend at ‘The Union’ in Manchester City Centre on Saturday for night one, before moving to Sunday evening and Stockport’s Guildhall for night two. We’ve looked at Night One previously; now let’s look ahead to Night Two at the Stockport Guildhall.

Doctor Proctor vs. CP (Connor Patrick) Reilly

It was back in February at FSW: Cry Wolf! When these two last met in the ring, as on that occasion it saw the self-proclaimed ‘Genius’ in CP Reilly getting the better of the Doctor, thanks in part to the interference of the Wildfire Nate Reese. Since then, however, the Doctor has dealt with Reese and now looks to avenge that loss against the Genius.

Lucy Sky vs. Helen Charlotte Campbell

Sunday pits two top returning stars to a FutureShock ring when Lucy Sky faces Helen Charlotte Campbell in what no doubt will be a hard-hitting contest from the first bell. Since Sky made her impressive debut last December against Harley Hudson, Lucy has quickly become a favourite amongst the FutureShock faithful, with her opponent Sunday being one of the toughest around the roster.

H.C.C. (Helen Charlotte Campbell) has seemingly slipped under the FutureShock radar of late, as the last time we saw the Oldham-based Campbell fighting in an FSW ring was back at Reality Check in March when she challenged Leah Raven in a close match for the women’s title but came up short. But despite the rise of Lucy Sky in the last year on the circuit, H.C.C. certainly can bring ‘Sky’ crashing down to earth. One thing you bet on is that whoever prevails in this contest, then you feel they have will grounds to push for another crack at the women’s title very Soon.

Leah Raven © vs. Lana AustinFUTURESHOCK WOMEN’S TITLE:

(3-STAGES OF FUTURESHOCK: 1st fall standard. 2nd fall – submission match – 3rd fall – Street Fight)

These two women have built quite the rivalry in FutureShock over the past couple of years and one that has seen one-upmanship at the heart of their bouts. It was back at Super Hench 2003 when the ‘Empress of Anarchy’ taped the hands of Lana Austin to the ring post to pick up the shock win by count-out before “the Queen of Mean” repaid the favour at Adrenaline Rush by throwing Raven out of the fire exit and locking the doors to pick up the count-out victory.

The two then faced off at last year’s 19th-anniversary show in a 2-out-of-3 fall match for the PROGRESS Women’s Championship, as the champion in Austin saw her taking victory by using the tights on the first fall before nailing Raven with a devastating Discus forearm for the 2-0 win. However, roles were reversed just a couple of months ago at High Gear when the two faced each other again, with Leah Raven being the defending champion and Lana Austin now as the challenger. Despite Austin putting a beating on the Raven, the Empress of Anarchy used her smarts again to use the ropes for advantage and see this tactical mind game favour the champion.

After Leah beat Gia Adams at ‘End of the Line’, we then saw Lana Austin send a video message to the champion, where she challenged Raven yet again to a match at the FutureShock Anniversary show and would let her decide the stipulation. The champion accepted the challenge and made it a 3-Stages of FutureShock Match, so for the second year running, Raven and Austin will go at it in a 2-of-3 falls match. The first fall will be a traditional wrestling match. The second fall is a submission match, and if we reach a third and deciding fall, it will be a street fight to determine the Women’s Championship.

HAIR vs. HAIR” Match: Sam Bailey vs. ‘The Hunter’ Briac Strong

This rivalry has been simmering since last November at FSW: Nowhere to Run when Sam Bailey injected himself into the No Holds Barred match between Tony Wright and ‘The Hunter’ Briac Strong, with Strong handcuffing the hands of Wright behind his back. That was until the intervention of the FutureShock PC Coach to stop to make sure it would be a fair contest.

After falling to defeat against The Leading Man, Strong blamed Bailey for the loss and has been on a quest to hunt him down. Both men have been needling each other in recent months, with Bailey costing Strong a victory against Joey Hayes before Strong returned the favour by attacking his opponent this Sunday from behind after Sam had lost out to Hayes.

After attacking Sam at the Performance Centre with a chair and taking his headphones as a trophy, the Hunter has since taken many items from other FutureShock superstars. The towel of the ‘Millennium Falcon’ James Grayson, the hair of Prince Pele, and tried to modify the locks of Nadjei at the last show ‘End of the Line’, but Bailey came out to make the save and spark a pull-a-part brawl with the entire FutureShock roster coming out to separate the two men.

Come August 11th, back at the Stockport Guildhall, it will be very personal with hair vs. hair on the line. Despite the bad blood between these two men, the only thing agreed upon is that whoever gets their head shaved will be in aid of cancer research.

“CAREER VS TITLE” – FUTURESHOCK HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE: CHRIS EGAN vs. JOE BLAZR ©

Your main event of FutureShock’s 20th Anniversary show is a Career vs. Title match, where the challenger in ‘The Man of the People’ Chris Egan, is risking his career to win his first-ever singles title in FutureShock Wrestling as he faces the defending champion Joe Blazr. Having made his first-ever FutureShock appearance 20 years ago at the Stockport Guildhall on their third-ever show, it would be a very fitting place to have him win the heavyweight title.

However, while many hope to see him lift the title above his head come Sunday night, there is equally the same possibility that we say goodbye to Chris Egan, and that will be down to CP (Connor Patrick) Reilly (Genius).

It was back at Danger Zone Pt. 1 that saw Egan last being pinned in a FutureShock ring, as after Ethan Kelly scored the shock victory over Chris, it led to Reilly berating Egan and going as far as to say he was an ’embarrassment’ and ‘not a has-been, but a NEVER-BEEN’. Egan had heard enough and said he was coasting, but Reilly’s words had lit a fire in him. He then agreed to a stipulation posed by the Invitational Tournament holder, that the next loss he suffers in the ring would be his last in a pro wrestling ring, and would see the fan-favourite retire from the sport. Since making that vow, he has been on a three-match winning streak with wins against CP Reilly, Joey Hayes, and last time out again, Sam Bailey.

Considering this title match has so much riding on it in terms of the steaks being high, it has seen the champion in Joe Blazr being almost the forgotten party in the whole thing, having seen Joe come into this title match having held the FutureShock belt for nearly a year since beating Chris Ridgeway at the 19th-anniversary show last year. During his reign, he has turned back the challenge of many top stars from the Brit Wrestling scene, such as HT Drake, Kid Lykos, Big Damo and Ethan Allen. But can the champion pull out one more victory against an opponent, who is both, desperate and determined to taste heavyweight gold for the first time in their long career?
