FutureShock: HOT TO GO – Review

Troy Ryan vs. Dave Birch:

The opening match saw one-half of the Futureshock Tag Team champions, Troy Ryan of the Meat Wagon, take on ‘Starkiller’ Dave Birch of Forbidden Planet. It saw the lead-up to this match with the fun-loving tag champions trying to cheer up both Birch and his tag partner Aiton Steen after they were attacked by The Horde last month, but they weren’t in the mood.

Birch started the aggressor by taking the fight to the much stronger and meatier opponent, but Ryan looked at him as if to say, “Is that it?” Starkiller then had to think outside the box, as he certainly wasn’t going to outmuscle or overpower his opponent, so he targeted the lower body even if his methods weren’t cheered by the Stockport crowd, but it was working. Despite the high-flying moves from StarKiller Dave Birch, it still saw Ryan having some advantage in the match, so when he hit an unorthodox flying body check in midair, it saw one-half of Meat Wagon looking destined for victory.

Troy then caught Birch and put him up on his shoulders to finish things off with the Fall of Troy—only for his opponent to hold onto the ropes to stop it from happening and lead to a reversal and pinning attempt, as Birch took full advantage by using the ropes for leverage to gain the pinfall victory. After the match, both members of Forbidden Planet stand by the curtain and gesturing titles around their waists, so maybe Birch & Steen will get a title shot soon.

Result: Birch pinned Ryan

Lana Austin & Briac Strong vs. Hollie Barlow & Doctor Proctor:

The rivalry between Lana Austin and Hollie Barlow saw it take a new twist, as having seen the ‘Hot Topic’ interfere in Austin’s last few matches, starting back at the 20th Anniversary show and then last month at Bumps in the Night, all involving Barlow denying Lana the chance of becoming champion again. So Futureshock management made a tag match where they could select their tag partner.

Lana Austin made a solid choice in picking ‘The Hunter’ Briac Strong, while before the identity of Hollie Barlow’s tag partner was announced, it saw Lana Austin taking the ‘Hot Topic’ out before Doctor Proctor’s music hit and saw this being a handicap match as the Doctor shouted, “I’ll take you both on.” It saw Futureshock’s resident medical grappler trying to battle both Strong and Austin in the match, as he gave them both the defibrillators, but the odds soon got too much for him to deal with, with Lana Austin directing traffic for ‘The Hunter’ to carry out. However, Hollie Barlow would return to the match and take her place back on the apron, where she got the tag and went straight after Lana before Strong stopped her in his tracks.

Strong stands above the Doctor

Strong hit Barlow with some impact moves and saw Proctor coming in with both Barlow and Austin brawling their way back through the curtain toward the locker rooms. Meanwhile, back in the ring, Proctor tried to fight off Strong, but the Hunter was too powerful and hit ‘The Hunted’ for the pinfall victory.

Result: Briac Strong pinned Doctor Proctor

Chris Ridgeway vs Declan McCarthy

Before the introductions, it saw the PC head coach Sam Bailey coming out and setting up a chair and being an observer, as a man he clashed with last month in Chris Ridgeway took on the returning ‘Beast from Ulster’ in Declan McCarthy, who had retired earlier in the year but saw his recent return from injury bring him back to Futureshock Wrestling.

Before the storm

This was a hard-hitting, physical, and bruising encounter between two tacticians in the ring who didn’t give an inch to the other. For the first half of the match, it was pretty even with neither Ridgeway nor McCarthy dominating things; that was until Chris hit the Northern Irishman flush in the face and saw his opponent fall out of the ring and have staff check up on him, as it saw him taking a bit of time for him to regain his faculties in the match. Ridgeway then began to go to work and targeted the legs of his opponent and had Chris straying from the line of legality with his moves after ripping off his wrist tape and choking McCarthy with Sam Bailey shouting towards the referee.

Ridgeway and McCarthy hug it out

McCarthy was put under the cosh, with Ridgeway hammering home his advantage by putting the ‘Beast of Ulster’ in the numerous submission holds and even using his knuckles to dig into the knees and joints of his opponent as he looked to draw the tap out. The Irishman nailed the ‘Morrigan’s Call’ on Ridgway only to draw a two-count before his rival gave him a slap barrage and hit the Brainbuster on Declan, only to see him kicking out of Ridgeway’s finisher. Ridgeway was pushing the boundaries more and more and eventually saw Bailey coming to the ring, where Chris knocked Sam down with a two-footed attack through the ropes, which saw that distraction being enough to have McCarthy scoring the surprise win. After the match, Ridgeway grabbed McCarthy by the ropes and saw the two embrace in a show of respect.

Result: Declan McCarthy pinned Chris Ridgeway

Helen Charlotte Cambell (HCC) vs. LILY WINTER – FutureShock Women’s Championship:

In the first title defence for the newly crowned champion, Lily Winter, her first opponent was against that in ‘Pure Evil’ herself, Helen Charlotte Campbell, H.C.C. The early stages saw Winter getting the offence in on Campbell and asking the Futureshock faithful a rhetorical question by saying, “I don’t think she’s ready.”. Lily poked the bear once too often, and the champion began to pay for her cocky attitude as HCC got into the match and put Winter in a spot of bother.

It saw the champion using every advantage she could to try and disrupt the flow of Campbell in the match, as the contest swayed one way and then the other way, with the challenger trying to stick to her game plan. HCC tried unsuccessfully to hit the chokeslam on her opponent numerous times before finally hitting it before Lily Winter, who managed to avoid the pinfall. The match concluded when Campbell went to hit a powerbomb on Winter only for the champion to use her momentum to come down on the chest of HCC and retain her women’s title in the process.

Result: Lily Winter pinned HCC

GEN 1 vs. The HORDE:

After we saw the introduction of Gorgon’s two newest recruits Seraphim and Jack Nomac, interjecting themselves in the tag match at “Bumps in the Night II” last month and destroying both Forbidden Planet and their opponents in James Grayson and Prince Pele of GEN 1. It saw Grayson and Pele wanting to get some retribution on the two men who attacked them and left them laid out in the ring.

It saw the Horde members attacking Gen 1 once they got in the ring before Grayson and Pele managed to get some offence in on their opponents until Seraphim and Nomac began to isolate James Grayson, where they took full control of the contest, with his tag partner only able to watch on. Gorgon watched as his men continued to cut off Grayson from his tag partner before Pele got the tag and began to clean house and saw a fired Prince Pele having GEN 1 on the front foot.

Pele can’t watch his teammate being dismantled

Grayson and Pele then hit a double-team move on Seraphim, which saw Nomac manage to disrupt the three count only to be thrown out of the ring and saw Seraphim hit with the double team yet again to see the pinfall this time carried out. After the match, all three members of the Horde attacked GEN 1 before the ring crew member that got carried out Bumps in the Night last month ran to the ring to make the save and saw a tense stare-down. While the Horde vacated the ring, it saw this person attacking Pele and Grayson, with Gorgon happy to see him joining him. He then led Gorgon and The Horde to leave through the back door and have questions moving forward.

Result: Gen 1 pinned Seraphim

Tony Wright VS Connor Patrick Reilly – FutureShocke Heavyweight Title

The main event of the evening saw ‘The Leading Man’ Tony Wright challenging the man he pinned at Bump in the Night in Futureshock Heavyweight champion Connor Patrick Reilly, as Tony went into his third title match within a year and looking to win gold.

Ring introductions

An even contest saw the referee being distracted in the match, where it saw Reilly grabbing the title and having Joe Blazr ripping the belt from the champion’s hands and saw Connor Patrick Reilly pretending to be hit by Blazr, with the match official ejecting Blazr from ringside. One could say that with the former champion sent to the back, it helped Wright more than Reilly, as he now wasn’t as distracted as he seemed prior. Reilly had Wright in a dragon sleeper and grounded him, but Tony managed to reach the ropes and stay in the match. Both men seemed to look for the knockout punch, but neither could land that final blow.

Wright hit a piledriver on the champion for a near fall before tuning up the band for Sweet Chin Music, only for Reilly to reverse it into a fireman’s carry and hit a neckbreaker off the knee, with the challenger hitting a Pedigree for another near fall. Reilly then threw an elbow by the ropes, thinking it was his opponent, but instead got the referee in the head and saw the champion grabbing the belt. With Reilly looking to use it, Joe Blazr came back out and ripped the belt from him and went to hit Reilly himself and accidentally hit Wright in the head. Connor thought the match was won following the belt shot, but Tony Wright kicked out to a huge pop.

Reilly Remains the Champion

In the end, a spear by CP Reilly proved to be the final word on the match and had the Futureshock champion making a successful second title defence of his reign.

Result: Connor Patrick Reilly pinned Tony Wright
