With the rankings coming back to AEW, I thought it was time to take a look back and see who is the winniest winner of 2023; the wrestlers with the highest win percentage. All data has been taken from cagematch.net. To qualify a wrestler needs to have wrestled at least ten matches and I am only counting matches that have taken place within AEW, both genders will be ranked together and only singles matches count..
10. Wardlow and Jay White
Matches: 17 | Wins: 15 | Win %: 88.2%
Coming in joint tenth is the Wardog and Knife Pervert, both with exactly the same amount of matches and wins. I think we can all agree that we can attribute most of Jay White’s wins to the assistance of Cardblade! While Jay White has been chasing the AEW world title, Wardlow had his sights on the TNT title at the start of the year where he, Samoa Joe and Powerhouse Hobbs fought over ownership of the belt until Wardlow lost it to Killswitch. Wardlow ended the year with six referee decisions!
8. Kris Statlander
Matches 20 | Wins 18 | Win %: 90.0
Only coming back from injury half way through the year and winning ninety percent of her matches has placed Kris in an impressive eighth place. Storming back onto the scene, Kris came in and took the TBS title off an undefeated Jade Cargill. She then went on an absolutely crazy run where she defended the TBS title 14 times! Seventy percent of her singles matches in 2023 were defending her title! She has been an absolute workhorse in 2023.
7. Athena and Sammy Guevara
Matches 11 | Wins 10 | Win %: 90.9
Just beating Kris by 0.9% Athena and Sammy get joint seventh place. Not only has Athena had THE best 2023 of any wrestler in America on ROH (maybe even the world), she has also put in a shift in AEW at the same time, making her way to the semi finals of the Owen Heart Foundation tournament. In a year that he became a new father Sammy has managed to also fit in twenty matches and win eighteen of them putting him in seventh place. Sammy tried to step away from Jerchico but he didn’t get far as he aligned himself with Don Callis which saw him feud with Jericho until having a child gave him the perspective needed to leave the family.
5. Power House Hobbs
Matches: 35 | Wins: 32 | Win %: 91.4
Out of everyone in the top ten, Hobbs has had the most single matches, at 35, which makes his win percentage even more impressive. Winning 32 of these matches has given him a win percentage of 91.4. In 2023 Hobbs won the Face of The Revolution match which earned him a shot at the TNT title. He cashed in his sonic ring and beat Wardlow for the TNT title with the controversial help of QT Marshall. Hobbs then went on to defend the title five times until he dropped it back to Wardlow. He also, like Athena, made it to the semi finals of the Owen Hart Tournament and to end his year he is now a key part of the Don Calis family.
4.Hook
Matches: 13 | Wins: 12 | Win %: 92.3
Hook had a very successful year in 2023 with his only singles defeat being against Jack Perry for the FTW title, which Hook went on to win after he suplexed Jack into some “real glass”. As well as defending his FTW title successfully five times, he also had one of the year’s most gruelling matches where he had to face Kris Statlander’s current stalker Big Stoke. He has also started off 2024 with a bang by setting his sights on the AEW World Title held by Samoa Joe. While Hook didn’t come away with the win, he put on a gutsy display, (causing his dad some serious stress) showing that, one day, Hook has the potential to win the big one.
3. Hikaru Shida
Matches: 14 | Wins: 13 | Win %: 93.3
Shida had a busy year outside of AEW having nine matches in other promotions. She also won the AEW World title twice making her the second person to hold a world title three times. In 2023 she defended her AEW World Title four times successfully, and her Regina Di Wave Title Two times. Shida started the year tangled up with the Outcasts which have started to fall apart after Shidia losing her title to Saraya at All In and then winning it back after Toni storm got involved. It would be remiss not to mention her physical match against Emi Sakura, which made me wince multiple times.
2. Julia Hart
Matches: 17 | Wins: 16 | Win %: 94.1
Julia has had a crazy 2023 after aligning with the house of black everything has seemed to click into place for the spooky one. With her new confidence and hat she has gone on a tear through the women’s division which drove her to an undeniable position meaning she could challenge and win the TBS title. In the just over two months left in the year after she won the belt she defended it three times while playing with the minds of Skye Blue and Willow Nightingale after misting them and turning, once positive, Skye Blue to the Dark side. Hopefully 2024 is the year of the witches coven and Julia brings in another sister of darkness to enact their will onto the women’s division.
1. Orange Cassidy
Matches: 28 | Wins: 27 | Win %: 96.4
While he might not have the most singles matches in AEW (Skye Blue and Hobbs share that accolade) Cassidy, the man famous for being apathetic, has grown into a man that only cares about two things: winning the International Title and, most surprisingly, defending said title as much as possible. Because of this attitude it was never going to be anybody else in the number one spot. A feud boiled over until there was no other way to end it than having a stadium stampede at All In was the driving force behind this change. His first title reign physically broke him down until he could give no more and lost his title to the ace of AEW Jon Moxley, then after winning it back from Rey Fenix, Cassidy has been growing more intense with each match.
